Anatomy, a vital branch of biology and natural science, studies the structure of organisms and their parts. It is linked to fields like embryology, comparative anatomy, evolutionary biology, and phylogeny, providing insights into anatomical development over time. Divided into macroscopic (gross anatomy) and microscopic anatomy, the discipline examines body parts with or without optical tools. Gross anatomy involves dissection and surface anatomy, while microscopic anatomy focuses on tissues and cells (histology). Over time, anatomy has progressed from dissections to advanced imaging techniques like X-rays, ultrasounds, and MRIs. Often studied alongside physiology, it forms a cornerstone of medical science.
The Anatomy Department at KWMC is dedicated to training MBBS and BDS students through a combination of lectures, dissections, and demonstrations. Its facilities include a spacious Dissection Hall for cadaver studies, a Histology Laboratory equipped with microscopes for studying microanatomy, and a Museum showcasing mounted specimens, osteological models, and embryological exhibits. The department emphasizes hands-on learning, enabling students to connect theoretical knowledge with practical application. A well-stocked central library supports the curriculum with books on gross anatomy, embryology, histology, radiology, and clinical anatomy. Through its comprehensive approach, the department prepares healthcare professionals to meet the demands of an evolving medical field.
Kumudini Women’s Medical College (KWMC) was established within the umbrella of Kumudini Welfare Trust in 2001. The aim is to materialize the dream of the founder by enrolling enthusiastic, dedicated and academically gifted female students who would pursue education which meet their needs and respond to the demand and opportunities of medicine, science, ethics and public policy.
